There
are many kinds and levels of sex offenses: obscene phone calls, indecent
exposure, child molestation, rape, window-peeping, harassment. Some sex
offenders practice only one kind, others try more than one as they go deeper
and deeper into their sad obsession. There resides the importance to turn
criminals in so that advantages are no longer taken by them or no one else. Many
are the sex offenders freely going for their intents seeing that most
victims don't tell the police. It is perfectly understandable since telling the
police would mean to go through agony once again, an unnecessary and worthless
suffering.
Factors that contribute for sex offense: alcohol and drug abuse,
incapacity of maintaining healthy relationships, criminal record.
Many
offenders themselves were victims of sex abuse once in blue moon out of
their lives. This does not justify their abominable crime but helps, instead,
investigating the causes that make them act in such a horrible manner, which can
be of great help also in their treatment.
Most offenders consider themselves innocents of sex
offense charges. They generally think of themselves as good characters and many
don't realize what they do as being something evil, morally wrong. Their
perception of reality is obtuse. Most sex offenders even get surprised by
the fact they become liable to punishment when caught.
Psychological profile of the offender: the offender sees
himself as a victim of his own psychological motivations as well as motives that
induce him to commit the offense. He experiences public humiliation, the
loss of his freedom, family disconnection, among others. That's why he feels
victimized by the offense and doesn't actually see the damage caused to the
victim, which is far more negative than the losses he faces.
Sex offenders must be held responsible, regardless of reasons and
their psychological problems. Nevertheless, it may be of some use to know his
way of thinking in order to prevent others from committing the same
cruelty.
